Week Two

I really need to get more creative with my post titles.  😁

Tuesday morning Ken played golf.  There is a great golf course right next to the church.

He played with a couple from Washington who were here on vacation.  He should have played 9 holes instead of 18 because he was REALLY sore for a few days after that.  He was going to play this morning with 3 of our YSA's before one of them heads off to BYUH for school tomorrow, but it's a very rainy day today.

We had the opportunity to visit several members and part member families this past week.  I love getting to know all of the people.  You realize though just how hard life can be for some people.  Sometimes it's from choices that were made in the past.  But many times it's just life and health issues and circumstances.  Ken was able to take the sacrament to a lady in the ward who is in a wheelchair because she has lost both of her legs.  She lost one when her husband (former) shot her in the leg and then lost the other somehow.  She was a nun at one time in her life.  It's quite a story.

On Tuesday after visiting a family in Winooski, we drove down to Church Street just to check it out and had ice cream at Ben and Jerry's.  One of these days were going to drive out to their factory.

On Wednesday we went out to visit some members.  We ended up in Jericho and tried to buy pie at this place called "Poor Pies".  Its so cute cause it's a self-serve honor system!  Unfortunate for us, Wednesdays is their day off.  So no pie for us but look at this place!

Since we didn't get pie, we decided to stop and eat lunch (we were starved) and found this great place called the Jericho Inn.  I had a Vermont grilled cheese (it had cheddar, apples, and bacon jam!)  It was so GOOD!  It was served with some kind of soup with kale and sausage that was to die for.  I was trying to be good and not eat the fries, but when I saw them I had to have an order.  Truly the best I've ever had.  (And I've had a LOT of fries. 😂  (Check out the date this Inn was established)

On Thursday  Ken gave a great lesson at institute.  We had a good turnout and we fed about 26 YSA's and missionaries.  I made pulled pork tacos and served it with cilantro lime rice and beans.  I made homemade salsa and it was all a hit.  It was A LOT of work.  I need to simplyify this week.  And I need to take more pictures.

On Friday's we have district meeting.   I’m so impressed with these young missionaries.  They are so smart and so dedicated and I love meeting with them.  I'm excited to have Erick be a missionary.  He's going to be great!  The training today was about how to get people to recognize the holy ghost.

On Saturday we got to help with the Bishop's Storehouse.  For those who don't know what that is, it is a place for members who need help to get free groceries.  In Utah they have specific buildings that the people go and get their signed orders filled.  (Signed by their bishops)  Well here, the closest storehouse is 5 hours away, so some members here headed up this make-shift storehouse where they order the food from a local grocer and the grocer delivers it to the church early Saturday morning.  We organized all the food and counted it and then the people came and we helped fill their orders.  I was amazed at how organized it was.  I loved it.  We will help every other Saturday with this.  I took these pics after a lot of the food had been distributed.  There was a lot.

On Sunday we went to church in Montpelier to meet with the YSA's from all over Vermont.  There were a lot there--maybe 30?  I still haven't been able to get my hands on the master list (although I keep asking) cause I only have registrations for about 21.  I guess there are hundreds--if we could just find them all!  We had a potluck/break-the-fast and visited for quite awhile.  After, because we were pretty close, we went to the Visitor's center in Sharon and learned a lot about Joseph Smith's early life and family.

And then, because it was only 40 minutes away I dragged Ken to see the longest covered bridge in Vermont--the Windsor-Cornish bridge.  I'm not sure but I think this is the bridge that mom had us go through in 1969.  It spans the Connecticut river and for many years it was always painted red.
