Well...today is October 5, 2019 so we have officially been on our mission for two months! Vermont is a wonderful place. It is listed as the least religious state in the nation but I don't know why? Everybody we talk to on the street seems to belong to some bunch. I continue to teach institute and Sister Swenson continues to cook for them every week. This last week she made spaghetti pie with salad and bread. It was a big hit and the Elders insisted on taking the left overs home. Mom seems to fit the role perfectly as the absentee mother to the sisters and elders. She cooks for them on Thursdays and councils all of their "stuff" in between. I continue to do most of my "finding" on the golf course. Look at the picture of the celebrity that I played with this week! He looks almost exactly like Tiger Woods and even dresses to intentionally be mistaken for Tiger. His name is Stowe Miller and is the 1st councilor in our new YSA branch. We played a beautiful course called Cedar Knoll. The weather was perfect and my golf game wasn't...oh well! When we bought our new Toyota for the mission it didn't come with a trailer hitch. I called the Toyota dealer out here and they quoted me $1675 installed. I went on line to Amazon and found a hitch, hardware, wiring, receiver, ball and pin for $179. I told Sister Swenson that I could surely install the dang thing for less than $1500. She (not giving me any RESPECT at all) said...the real question is, when will Fred be here! The new Young Single Adult Branch that we've been assigned to is really exciting to both of us. After General Conference and a two week vacation for the Branch President we should get our marching orders. We're excited about that because Sister Swenson has found plenty to do but I could use some more assignments...you can only play so much golf and besides it's getting cold. We taxi the sister missionaries around because they share a car with the elders and the elders usually prevail. Well, I better get back to conference because Elder Bednar is just starting to talk and I love to hear him. Know how much mom and I love all of you and pray for your success. The Church is true and we love the work that we are about.  Ken

  1. Dad, you should ask the Stake Director of Public Affairs if there is anything you can do to help the Public Affairs or JustServe efforts. Its not uncommon for a full-time missionary to serve on the JustServe committee and help to hunt down service/volunteer opportunities in the area to post on the JustServe website. I have found the JustServe mission to be some of the most personally enriching and rewarding work I have ever done in the church. I think you have the perfect skill set for such a job (i.e.-schmooze community activists and meet new people).

Keep up the good work. I totally underestimated how proud I would be to have parents on a mission and how impactful your example would be on my kids. Love you!
